WSU Police Seek Help in Recovering Stolen 50-foot Banner

PULLMAN, Wash. — The Washington State University Police Department is seeking information in the theft last night of a 50-foot banner bearing the Cougar Athletics logo from the construction site of the Plant Biosciences Building on Stadium Way.

WSU Police Chief Steve Hansen said the banner, which was rigged to be raised for display during the Apple Cup football game at Martin Stadium his Saturday, was stolen sometime between 5 p.m. Thursday and 6 a.m. today (Nov. 19).

Campus police are asking anyone who may have information that may be related to the theft of the banner to call WSU Police Officer Dean Prater at (509) 335-8548 or at (509) 332-2521 after-hours. Chief Hansen said anonymous calls will be accepted and a reward of $500 is being offered for information leading to the recovery of the banner.

The 50-foot by 50-foot banner is white and bears a crimson Cougar-head logo. It is estimated to weigh about 250 pounds, and police believe a number of suspects were involved in the theft. Hansen said the theft constitutes a Class B felony under state law, which carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and/or a $20,000 fine.
