WSU, UW Regents to Hold Joint Meeting Friday

The Washington State University Board of Regents will hold a joint meeting with the University of Washington Board of Regents Friday (Nov. 19). The joint meeting will be in addition to the regents’ regularly scheduled November meeting.

The regular meeting will begin at 9 a.m. The agenda for the meeting is online at http://www.regents.wsu.edu/AgendasNotices/041119Agenda.doc . The joint meeting will begin at 3:30 p.m. Both will be held in Room 405 of the Lighty Student Services Building on the Pullman campus.

Earlier this fall, the boards of each institution adopted a joint WSU-UW biennial budget proposal to be presented to the Washington State Legislature.

At the morning meeting, the WSU Board of Regents is expected to discuss the self-study plans submitted by WSU Vancouver and WSU Tri-Cities. The campuses undertook the studies, in conjunction with their local communities, in response to House Bill 2707, enacted by the Legislature this year. The bill required the regional campuses of WSU and UW to submit plans for the continued development of their campuses to meet state higher education needs.

The regents are also expected to consider updated principles for development of the university’s multicampus system, to encourage the development of distinct campuses working cooperatively within the WSU framework.

In other action items, the board will consider approval of an agreement between WSU and Weyerhaeuser Co. concerning a 147-acre parcel of land in Bonney Lake, and approval of the design and installation of a fire suppression system for Bryan Hall on the Pullman campus.  The committees of the WSU Board of Regents will meet Thursday.
