College Knowledge for Adults: Free Workshop About Attending College

SPOKANE, Wash. College Knowledge for Adults, a free workshop tailored for adults thinking about going back to school or finishing a degree, has been set for Oct. 27.

Offered in partnership with Spokane Falls Community College, the workshop will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. in room 110C of the Health Sciences Building, 310 N. Riverpoint Blvd., at the WSU Spokane campus.  Attendees should park at the metered spaces or on the street.

This program will feature inspirational stories and ideas, including motivational messages from adult students.

“I decided to return to college after hearing an advertisement on the radio about the College Knowledge seminar two years ago, said Patricia Hartman of Colville. “After attending the seminar, I was inspired and excited to not only begin my educational journey, but to complete one of my long-term goals,”

Paying for college is often a major concern. To help students jump start the process, Verizon has donated a scholarship for each College Knowledge site in the amount of $500 to be awarded to individuals participating in the workshop. Winners will be drawn at random and each participant will have an opportunity to win. These scholarships may be used at any community college or four-year school in Washington.

While the primary target audience for the workshop is adults, all are welcome.  The program will provide information for those who have not started college, for those who have started but not completed a degree and for those interested in pursuing additional education.  Experts will provide information on financial aid and scholarship opportunities, admissions and distance education.

Participants will also learn more about the educational options in the Spokane area, including what degrees and courses are offered locally and online.  A panel of community members who have completed degrees and found local jobs will be available to share their experiences. For more information or to preregister, contact Jane Kinkel, WSU Spokane, at (509) 358-7537, kinkel@wsu.edu.   There is no cost to participate.

Persons with a disability requiring special accommodation while participating in this program may call WSU Spokane Student Services at (509) 358-7526.  If not requested in advance, we cannot guarantee the availability of accommodation on site. Extension programs and policies are consistent with federal and state laws and regulations on nondiscrimination regarding race, color, gender, national origin, religion, age, disability and sexual orientation.
