PULLMAN, Wash. — A groundbreaking ceremony and reception for the new Washington State University Education Addition, adjacent to Cleveland Hall, will be held at 4 p.m. May 5.
WSU President V. Lane Rawlins and Provost Robert C. Bates will join Dean Judy Mitchell and other representatives of the College of Education as speakers at the event.
The new three-story building, to be constructed in what is now a parking lot, will help meet the needs of the state’s educational system and the growing number of students studying at the College of Education, Mitchell said.
The addition, which will be linked to Cleveland Hall by a covered pedestrian bridge, will contain six classrooms (all wired with the latest high-tech connections), two project rooms, eight offices and plenty of open common space for study groups and informal interactions.
The Washington Legislature allocated $11 million for the project. The building will be completed by August 2005.
“This will be a beautiful building and a very useful teaching environment,” Mitchell said. “Our thanks to the legislators and supporters who made this dream come true.”
