PULLMAN, Wash. — The Washington State University College of Veterinary Medicine has been granted seven years of continued full accreditation by the American Veterinary Medical Association’s Council on Education.
Seven-year accreditation is the highest level of accreditation any veterinary college can attain.
“I’m very gratified that we were exemplary in meeting this tough standard of evaluation,” said Warwick Bayly, dean of the college. “It is a testament to the unrelenting hard work of our students, faculty and staff as well as the foresight of the Washington State Legislature’s continued support of veterinary medicine.”
The AVMA-COE is the official body that oversees and inspects all veterinary college facilities, staffing and curricula that are seeking accreditation. Each college must prepare and submit a voluminous self-study prior to a week-long site visit by AVMA-COE members representing all aspects of veterinary medicine.
Full accreditation can be made for a period of from one to seven years. To receive a full seven-year accreditation, the veterinary college applying must be in complete compliance with all standards without exception.
