VANCOUVER, Wash. — Washington State University Vancouver will present a staged reading of William Mastrosimone’s “The Afghan Women” at 7 p.m. March 30 as part of its 2004 Honors Lecture Series, “Living Wisdom: Cultures of World Religions.”
The presentation will be in the Student Services Building, Room 110, and is free and open to the public. A discussion with the actors and other distinguished guests will follow.
“The Afghan Women” portrays the plight of an Afghan-American woman physician operating an orphanage and her confrontation with the pillaging warlord who wants to use her and the orphans as hostages.
Following the American-led war to oust the Taliban government in the aftermath of the Sept. 11 attacks, Mastrosimone became concerned with the plight of Afghanistan’s orphans and wrote the play to benefit International Orphan Care/Afghanistan Project (www.orphanproject.org).
Vancouver’s BSLC Theater Group will perform the reading.
