PULLMAN, Wash. — The Visual, Performing and Literary Arts Committee of Washington State University will present the contemporary music ensemble “Scrap Arts Music” at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 11 in the university’s Bryan Hall Theatre. Admission is free.
Scrap Arts Music is a Vancouver, British Columbia-based, ensemble that performs an energetic, highly choreographed program with equal parts percussion, theater and movement – action percussion.
Gregory Kozak, a percussionist and the group’s artistic director, created the show. His compositions fuse pop and world music with 21st century sounds, and are played on instruments of his design, skillfully crafted from salvaged and recycled industrial cast-off.
Featuring all-original music, futuristic instruments on wheels and hyper-kinetic movement, the ensemble brings together five athletic percussionists and 25 sculptural instruments in a tightly choreographed performance. With choreographed precision, performers leap about the stage, hitting, moving and bowing their instruments.
