PULLMAN, Wash. — Janet Chvatal and Scott Kritzer will bring their own brand of updated vocal-and-strings chamber music to the Washington State University campus at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 28, in Bryan Hall Theater.

Since their 1996 debut, Chvatal and Kritzer have stepped away from the traditional stiffness of a classical voice recital with an original and playful repertoire. Their blending of six-string guitar and vocals makes for a unique on-stage performance.
The duo’s first CD, “Songs of the Americas,” came just three years after touring within the United States. Since then, Chvatal and Kritzer’s popularity has extended to Canada and Europe, including performances with the stars from the Cirque du Soleil and the award-winning musical, “Riverdance.” They played in front of audiences of more than 8,000 each in Frankfurt and Mainz, Germany.
This season will see the release of their second CD, “Arias and Lullabies,” which features new arrangements of operatic favorites like Gershwin’s “Summertime” and Carmen’s “Habanera,” backed by the Munich Radio Symphony Orchestra.
