Nominations sought for Women of Distinction

Washington State University is seeking nominations for its “Woman of the Year” and “Women of Distinction” awards, presented annually during National Women’s History Month in March. The deadline to nominate is Feb. 6.

Four women a WSU alumna, an employee, a student and a woman outside the university will be named “Women of Distinction.” All WSU campuses are included. WSU President V. Lane Rawlins will present the awards at the Women’s Recognition Luncheon on March 25.

The awards recognize women for their personal accomplishments and contributions to society and women’s lives. To be considered, nominees must be women distinguished in academic work, career, leadership, public service or any combination thereof. They should be women who have contributed to the personal growth and success of others, especially through education, research and public or volunteer service. Women who have not received the award in the past five years are eligible. Visit http://www.wsu.edu/~wrc/History for information on past winners.

Coordinated by the university’s Commission on the Status of Women, this year’s theme, “Women Inspiring Hope and Possibility,” celebrates the hope and sense of possibility that comes to our lives from the inspirational work of women, said commission officials.

Award program sponsors at WSU include the President’s Office, the President’s Commission on the Status of Women, the Women’s Resource Center, the Women’s Studies Department, the Association for Faculty Women and the Coalition for Women Students.
