Cougars Prepare for Holiday Bowl Activities

PULLMAN, Wash. — Fans of the Washington State University Cougars will soon begin arriving in San Diego to take part in a variety of activities leading up to the Dec. 30 Holiday Bowl football clash with the Texas Longhorns.

Here are a few notable events:

Dec. 28, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.: Team Day at San Diego Zoo. Visitors can roam the grounds while the Cougar team participates in special zoo activities. Charles R. Schroeder, ’29 D.V.M., was the director of the San Diego Zoo for 19 years, and received the WSU Regents’ Distinguished Alumnus Award in 1979 for his success in making the zoo into the world’s finest.

Dec. 29, 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.: WSU Pep Rally, Spanish Landing Park, corner of Harbor Drive and Harbor Island Drive. Masters of ceremonies Bob Robertson and Jim Walden, Coach Bill Doba and the team, Butch and the marching band will be on hand to fire up the Cougars. Free admission. Open to the public.

Dec. 30, 10 a.m.: Port of San Diego Big Bay Balloon Parade, Harbor Drive, downtown San Diego.

11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.: Battle of the University Bands, Broadway Pier, Harbor Drive, downtown San Diego (immediately following parade).

1:30 to 4:30 p.m.: Alumni Pre-Game Party, northeast corner outside Qualcomm Stadium. The event will feature entertainment and appearances by Butch, the WSU Marching Band and Spirit Squad.

5 p.m.: Pacific Life Holiday Bowl, Washington State vs. Texas, Qualcomm Stadium.
