SPOKANE, Wash. — An award-winning work by Forster Ndubisi, director of the Interdisciplinary Design Institute and professor of landscape architecture at Washington State University Spokane, received the Certificate of Merit Award from the Washington chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects.
The award was presented this month at the Frye Art Museum in Seattle for Ndubisi’s book “Ecological Planning: A Historical and Comparative Synthesis.” The work previously won the only ASLA Honor Award for Research given in 1999. The only submission from eastern Washington, the book also received the only WASLA award given in the “Research and Communication” category.
Jurors praised the book, calling it “a well-researched and relevant topic resulting in a textbook used by a number of colleges and universities providing students with an overview (and a look towards the future) of ecological planning.”
“This work provides a rich array of responsible and rational starting points for any design professional or land owner to use in planning” said another juror. “It cuts across disciplinary boundaries, and compiles some of the best ways to approach the question, ‘What should happen here?’”
