Pullman, Spokane host PERS seminars

Two educational seminars have been scheduled for Washington State University employees participating in or considering the retirement PERS Plan III or transferring from PERS Plan II to PERS Plan III. The seminars include:

• “How to get to the money in Plan III,” which details how funds can be distributed to participants. If you are within five years of leaving employment, you may want to learn more about your distribution options.

• “Plan choice II or III,” which helps new employees who need to make a decision between PERS Plan II and PERS Plan III, since this decision is irrevocable. New employees have 90 days to make a retirement decision.

This session also may benefit WSU employees in PERS Plan II hired before March 2002, because some have the opportunity to transfer to PERS Plan III in January of each year.

“If you are considering this option, I would encourage you to attend this seminar,” said Marie Weiss of the WSU Benefits Office.

Calling the Washington State DRS (Department of Retirement Systems) at 1-800-547-6657 can verify your eligibility for possible transfer.

Each seminar runs about 90 minutes, and will be held on the following dates, times and locations.

*Nov. 19, WSU Spokane, Phase 1 Building, Room 115:
9 a.m. “How to get to the money in PERS Plan III.”
11 a.m. “Plan choice II or III.”
1 p.m. “How to get to the money in PERS Plan III.”

* Nov. 20, WSU Pullman, Beasley Cougar Lounge:
8:30 a.m. “How to get to the money in PERS Plan III.”
11:30 a.m. “Plan choice II or III.”

And by the way…
WSU employees whose retirement is invested in PERS can also save additional funds for retirement in a TDI (tax deferred investment) account with TIAA-CREF.
