PULLMAN, Wash. — The Associated Students of Washington State University’s Student Entertainment Board will present a number of live rock performances in “A Rock Show That is Out of This World,” beginning at 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 6.
The show will feature headliner Alien Crime Syndicate as well as the bands Post Stardom Depression, The Jet City Fix, and 10 Minutes Down. Tickets are $5 and will be available the day of the show only at the door of the west entrance to the Compton Union Building.
Headliners and Seattle favorite, Alien Crime Syndicate, was on campus in August to open for the band Everclear at the Beasley Performing Arts Coliseum. The music of ACS has been included in films and TV shows on networks such as MTV, ESPN and CBS. They have also played with a number of acts, including Sugar Ray, Weezer, American Hi-Fi and Harvey Danger. Its latest album features new guitarist Mike Squires, (previously of Harvey Danger and Nevada Bachelors) and is more representative of the band’s live sound.
“When people watch us play, they can tell that we’re having just as good a time as they are and sometimes more — a lot more,” said band guitarist Jeff Rouse said.
Post Stardom Depression is a Tacoma act that has toured with Queens of the Stone Age and the late Dee Dee Ramone of The Ramones. PSD delivers its music with a rocky edge.
The Jet City Fix, also from the Seattle/Tacoma area, fuses punk and rock together for an original sound. “We really do have a lot of fun. I look at our shows as a time to forget about work, your job, school, homework, whatever, and just rock out and have a good time,” said singer Shane Flauding.
The Spokane-based band 10 Minutes Down has become a local favorite since it formed in 1995. The band won “Best Local Band” and “Best Local Album,” awards from The Local Planet in 2001 and 2002 and “Best Local Band” from The Inlander in 2001. It was involved in the Vans Warped Tour in 1999-00 and performed with acts such as Green Day and Blink 182. The band’s performance in Boise, Idaho, during the Warped Tour 2000 earned 10 Minutes Down 11th place out of more 300 bands in the nationwide Ernie Ball Battle of the Bands 4. Most recently, the band signed a contract with Warner Brothers to write songs for a children’s cartoon series.
