WSU Jazz Studies Featured in International Magazines

PULLMAN, Wash. The Washington State University Jazz Studies Program was recently featured in Jazziz, Down Beat and Jazz Times—the three leading international jazz magazines.

The October 2003 issue of Jazziz includes a recording of the WSU Jazz Quartet featuring Scott Ryckman, saxophone; Kelvin Monroe, piano; Jesse Hadley, bass; and Scott Tenhulzen, drums; on a “Jazziz on Disc” compact disc described in the magazine as a “CD featuring…today’s hottest student players.” The CD includes performances from the best jazz programs in the country including WSU, the Julliard School and the New England Conservatory.

WSU Coordinator of Jazz Studies Greg Yasinitsky said, “It is extremely gratifying to see that the work of WSU students is recognized in this way. This is a tribute to the high quality of our students and to the excellent work of the Music Program faculty.”

The WSU Jazz Studies Program was also included in recent issues of Down Beat and Jazz Times. Down Beat magazine’s “Where to Study Jazz 2004″ lists WSU among 142 US college and university programs (unranked). WSU is included among 32 programs in the Western U.S. and among only 6 programs in the Pacific Northwest.

“The Jazz Education Guide 2002/2003” presented by Jazz Times magazine includes WSU among 292 US college and university programs (unranked) and among only 7 programs in the Pacific Northwest.
