Renton’s Floyd and Judy Rogers Honored by WSU Foundation

PULLMAN, Wash. — Washington State University computer science alumni Floyd and Judy Rogers of Renton, were presented the WSU Foundation’s Outstanding Service Award during the foundation’s awards luncheon Oct. 3. on the Pullman campus.

The Rogers’ contributions to WSU are unprecedented and include the endowment of two chaired professorships in computer science at $1.5 million each in the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at WSU. The university began building its software engineering program into an area of research excellence with the first endowment in 2001. The second endowed professorship will enable WSU to build additional areas of excellence in the school’s computer science graduate degree program, Tom Fischer, director of the EECS said.

In addition to their extraordinary philanthropic gestures, the couple contributed a great deal of time, energy and expertise as volunteers at WSU and the WSU Foundation. Floyd Rogers brings extensive industrial experience and balanced advice to the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science’s Advisory Council, where he is a member of the Executive Committee. In addition to serving on the Strategic Communications Committee at WSU, Judy Rogers is an enthusiastic member of the WSU Foundation’s Board of Trustees.

“Floyd and Judy’s commitment to Washington State University has been second to none,” said WSU Foundation President Richard Frisch. “Their efforts have been visionary in scope and invaluable in helping to make WSU the world-class research institution it is today.”

The WSU Foundation Outstanding Service Awards are given annually as a public testimonial to individuals who have made outstanding singular or collective contributions in service to the WSU Foundation and the university.

Also receiving Outstanding Service Awards in 2003 are Philip Abelson of Washington, D.C.; Doris Cleveland of Colbert; Sandra Kay Fryer of Orinda, Calif.; and Skyler Smick of Brush Prairie.
