PULLMAN, Wash. — Washington State University’s theater department will hold auditions for its play on diversity, “Six Degrees of Separation,” on Oct. 23 and 24 in Daggy Hall.
The 7 p.m. auditions are open to all members of the community and will be Thursday (Oct. 23) in Wadleigh Theatre and Friday (Oct. 24) in R.R. Jones Theatre. The production, which will be performed Feb. 11-14, consists of 18 cast members – 13 men, four women and one charming and witty black male who is confident with his identity.
It is said that only six people separate everybody on the planet. “Six Degrees of Separation” tells the story of a college-aged African-American male who pretends to be the son of the famous black actor Sidney Poitier to gain access to posh New Yorkers.
The play by John Guare is loosely based on the true story of David Hampton who was arrested in 1983 for posing as Poitier’s son. The comedy-drama explores themes of reality versus appearance, class and social mobility.
