Claremont Trio Plans Oct. 17 Concert at WSU

PULLMAN, Wash. — The nationally acclaimed Claremont Trio will perform Friday (Oct. 17) at a concert set for 7:30 p.m. at Bryan Hall Auditorium.

The group will perform Ernest Bloch’s “Nocturnes for Violin, Cello and Piano,” Bedrich Smetana’s Trio in G for Piano; Violin and Cello, Op.15; and Trio in E-flat major, Op. 100 by Franz Schubert.

The trio includes twin sisters Emily and Julia Bruskin and Donna Kwong. The three met in New Mexico in 1999 at the Taos School of Music. During the summer of 2001, as the Claremont Trio, they participated in the Isaac Stern Chamber Music Workshops at Carnegie Hall and gave a recital for the Princeton Summer Chamber Concerts. They have also performed at the Lucerne, Norfolk and Great Lakes summer festivals.

The trio won First Prize in the 2001 Young Concert Artists International Auditions and consequently made its New York debut at the 92nd Street Y, opening the 41st Young Concert Artists Series. The trio played its Boston debut at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum and a Washington, D.C., debut at the National Museum of Women in the Arts. The Claremont Trio holds the Helen F. Whitaker Chamber Music Chair of YCA.

During the summer of 2002, the Claremont Trio traveled to Slovenia and Croatia to perform as part of a cultural exchange sponsored by the U.S. State Department and Carnegie Hall. They also have performed at the Moab Music Festival in Utah. In December, the Trio was featured in Weill Hall, at Carnegie Hall, as part of the Alexander Schneider Chamber Music Series.
