WSU Jazz Concert Features VOJAZZ and Jazz Big Band

PULLMAN, Wash. — Washington State University’s Jazz Big Band and VOJAZZ vocal jazz ensemble will present an Oct. 7 concert at 8 p.m. in Kimbrough Concert Hall.

The program will open with VOJAZZ, directed by Jennifer Scovell, performing “Honeysuckle Rose,” “Georgia,” “In the Silence of Time” and “Me And Julio.”

The Jazz Big Band, directed by Greg Yasinitsky, will perform two new compositions, “Thinkin’ Bout Maynard,” composed by David Snider, a graduate teaching assistant and bassist in the band; and “The Big T,” composed by Yasinitsky. The band will also perform Steve Brown’s “Catch Phrase,” Thelonious Monk’s “Ask Me Now” and Yasinitsky’s “After Eight.”

Soloists will include Matt Reid, Brendan McMurphy and Matt Postle on trumpet; Jr. Tupa’i, Jason Larsen and Malcolm Lewis, saxophone; Jesse Hadley, piano; Javin Grove, drums; and Snider on bass.

The event is free and open to the public.
