SEATTLE, Wash. — Washington State University, in partnership with the Bon-Macy’s department store, will host the first Future Cougars of Color Diversity Kick-off Luncheon on Friday, Aug. 29 in Seattle.
The luncheon is scheduled for noon-1:30 p.m. at the downtown Bon-Macy’s store on Stewart Street (3rd Floor, Stewart Street Room). It will feature Frank Blethen, Seattle Times publisher, as keynote speaker, and James Donaldson, president of Donaldson Clinics, as emcee.
The event will raise money for scholarships to benefit underrepresented minority students in WSU’s College of Liberal Arts and the Future Cougars of Color program, a university-wide program designed to help recruit a more diverse student body.
This fall, the FCOC program will bring 100 high school seniors of color from throughout the state to WSU’s Pullman campus for a two-day program showcasing the academic options and support programs offered by the university, said Milton Lang, special assistant to the president and development director for diversity and scholarships for the WSU Foundation. There they will have the opportunity to hear presentations by outstanding faculty, staff and students.
“Ultimately, WSU will attract the state’s best and brightest students of color and prepare them to enter the workforce,” he said.
