Prepapid tuition levels to be adjusted Aug. 1

The Guaranteed Education Tuition (GET) Committee will meet on Friday, Aug. 1, in Olympia to set the unit price for the 2003-04 enrollment period that begins Sept. 15. Currently, the unit price is $57.

GET is the state’s prepaid college tuition program, which enables Washington families to buy tomorrow’s college tuition today. The program works on a unit system, with 100 units equal to one year of resident undergraduate tuition and required state fees at the highest priced public university in Washington, and unit prices are set annually.

During the meeting, the committee also will hear a GET investment update from Diana Will from the Washington State Investment Board, which oversees the state’s GET investments. Committee action will include vendor selection for GET actuary services.

The Washington Guaranteed Education Tuition Program is a Qualified Tuition Program under Section 529 of the Internal Revenue Service Code. Since GET began in 1997, Washington families have opened more than 36,000 accounts valued at over $360 million.
