Leading activist Gopal Dayaneni, oil campaign coordinator for an international organization known as Project Underground, will headline a lecture on Friday, April 25, in conjunction with scheduled Earth Week activities at WSU Vancouver.
Project Underground is an environmental rights organization that works with communities around the world to resist oil and mining exploitation. Dayaneni also sits on the steering committee of Oilwatch International, a network of organizations dedicated to environmental protection against oil company infringement. Dayaneni has helped lead the fight for social, economic and racial justice since the 1980s through teaching, writing, speaking and organizing non-violent, direct action.
There is no charge to attend the lecture, which will be held in the WSU Vancouver Student Services Building lecture hall, and parking is free. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and complimentary appetizers will be served. The lecture begins promptly at 7 p.m.
The community also is invited to attend an outdoor Eco Fair Thursday, April 24, from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. on the campus plaza. Local artisans, vendors and non-profit environmental agencies will display and sell their wares, provide services and share information throughout the day.
