Pedro Barbosa is E. Paul Catts Memorial Lecturer

This year’s invited speaker is Pedro Barbosa, University of Maryland. The title of his presentation is “It Takes 3 to Tango.” The lecture will take place at 8 p.m. April 10 at the Holiday Inn Express.

Barbosa is a Fellow of both the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) and the Entomological Society of America (ESA). Twice Barbosa has received the Bussart Memorial Award for Excellence in Research, and he currently occupies a Distinguished Research Faculty Fellowship at the University of Maryland.

Barbosa’s interests are in theoretical and applied aspects of insect-plant interactions, in particular interactions across three trophic levels: plants, herbivores, and predators. Thus the title of his talk, “It Takes 3 to Tango.” Barbosa is also among the best-known authorities on conservation biological control, which is the manipulation of agro-ecosystems to make them friendlier to natural enemies.
