Visiting Professor Part of Economics Speaker Series

PULLMAN, Wash. — The Bertha C. Leigh Distinguished Speaker Series in Economics at Washington State University continues April 3 with a lecture, “Earning a Place at the Policy Table: Benefit Cost Analysis Comes of Age.”

V. Kerry Smith, a University Distinguished Professor of Agricultural and Resource Economics at North Carolina State University and director of the Center for Environmental and Resource Economic Policy, will present the 7:30 p.m. talk in Todd Hall, Room 276.

Smith has served as an adviser to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in developing air and water quality regulations and assisted several states and the U.S. Department of Justice in natural resource damage assessment cases. He is past president of the Southern Economic Association and the Association of Environmental and Resource Economics. He was named a Fellow of the American Agricultural Economic Association, the highest honor the association bestows.

Smith earned an undergraduate and doctoral degree from Rutgers University (N.J.). He has taught at Bowling Green State University; State University of New York, Binghamton; University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill; Vanderbilt University and Duke University.
