John Slaughter, president and CEO of the National Action Council for Minorities in Engineering, will deliver the keynote address at the WSU Faculty Honors Convocation this afternoon, Friday, March 28. He will speak about “Diversity: An Opportunity, Not a Challenge.”
The convocation is set to begin at 4:10 p.m. in Bryan Hall Auditorium as part of “World Class. Face to Face. SHOWCASE.”
Slaughter is a former director of the National Science Foundation, president of Occidental College in Los Angeles and chancellor at the University of Maryland, College Park. His long and distinguished background as a leader in the education, engineering and the scientific communities includes serving 1979 – 80 at WSU as provost and academic vice president.
He is a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and a member of the National Academy of Engineering, the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and the Tau Beta Pi Honorary Engineering Society.
