PULLMAN, Wash. — Washington State University’s Beasley Performing Arts Coliseum will celebrate its 30th anniversary with an April 5 performance by the Washington Idaho Symphony.
The 8 p.m. concert will emphasize Russian romanticism in a performance that includes Tchaikovsky’s “Sleeping Beauty Ballet Suite” and “Romeo and Juliet Fantasy”, and Prokofiev’s “March and Scherzo from the Love for Three Oranges.”

Completed in 1973, the Wallis Beasley Performing Arts Coliseum is named for the former executive vice president who retired in 1981. (Beasley joined WSU in 1948 as a sociology faculty member. He was WSU’s acting president following the retirement of C. Clement French, WSU’s sixth president. Beasley served in that role starting Aug. 15, 1966, until July 1, 1967, when W. Glenn Terrell, WSU’s seventh president, took office.) Many of the campus’ cultural activities take place in the coliseum. They include ballet performances, plays, operas, concerts and guest lectures. It is also the site of WSU commencement ceremonies.
The structure seats 12,000 for Cougar basketball games on Friel Court, named for Jack Friel, a 1923 graduate and WSU basketball coach for 30 years (1929-1958).
