Event draws faculty, advisers

The university’s annual Faculty Honors Convocation has been linked this year to a two-day event titled “World Class. Face to Face. Showcase.”

The Faculty Honors Convocation will begin at 4:10 p.m., March 28, in Bryan Hall Theatre. John Slaughter, president and CEO of the National Action Council for Minorities in Engineering, Inc., will speak, and faculty award winners (see profiles on pages 6 – 8) will be honored.

For the first time in approximately a decade, the event will also draw the advisory boards for six colleges, the Libraries and Cougar Athletics. Members will gather at meetings and receptions March 28 and 29 to discuss the university’s goals and honor outstanding faculty.

Approximately 150 people will participate, holding their respective board meetings around campus. Participating are the colleges of Education, Engineering and Architecture, Liberal Arts, Business and Economics, Agriculture and Home Economics, Sciences and the Libraries. The Athletic Council will also meet.

“It is important for President Rawlins to share the university’s visions and strategic plan with its key volunteers,” said Sonia Hussa, director of university events.

The first evening will end with performances from WSU Jazz Big Band, WSU VoJazz and Crimson Revue at 7:30 p.m. at Beasley Theater. This event is open to the public.

High school juniors and their families also will learn what WSU has to offer through special academic showcases from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on March 29, allowing faculty to interact with prospective students and their families at a one-on-one level. Students will also have the opportunity to tour campus.
