PULLMAN, Wash. — The Division of Governmental Studies and Services at Washington State University received an award for “Distinguished Public Service” in recognition of its work and contributions to Whitman County.
Steven R. Tomson, sheriff of Whitman County, presented the award to DGSS officials Nicholas P. Lovrich, director; Michael J. Gaffney, assistant director; and Ruth L. Self, program coordinator, on Dec. 3.
The dedicated and professional staff of the DGSS has contributed to the safety and well being of Whitman County citizens, Tomson said. “They truly exhibit the qualities of excellence in public service.”
Besides its role in the creation of WHITCOM, the state-of-the-art emergency communications center located on the WSU campus, DGSS has provided continued support for the Whitman County Community Oriented Policing Initiative, The Washington State Institute for Community Oriented Policing and the Western Regional Institute for Community Oriented Public Safety.
