VANCOUVER, Wash. — Washington State University Vancouver’s Program in Public Affairs and the Forum at the Library will sponsor a congressional debate at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, in the WSU Vancouver lecture hall. Congressional candidates U.S. Representative Brian Baird and Washington State Senator Joseph Zarelli will debate the topic of jobs and the economy and respond to questions from the audience.
Lecture hall doors open at 6 p.m. and seating is limited to 200. Overflow seating will be available in the Student Services building, Room 129, where a monitor will be set up to view the debate live. Carolyn Long, associate professor of political science and director of WSU Vancouver’s Program in Public Affairs, will serve as moderator. Additional panelists include David Ammons of the Associated Press, and Jeff Mize of The Columbian. Long, Ammons and Mize will ask questions on jobs and the economy and present questions from the audience.
A reception sponsored by the Thomas S. Foley Institute for Public Policy and Public Service will immediately follow the debate in the cafeteria in the Student Services building. Light refreshments will be served and members of the public will have the opportunity to meet the candidates.
WSU Vancouver is located at 14204 N.E. Salmon Creek Ave., east of the 134th Street exit from either I-5 or I-205.
