VANCOUVER, Wash. — The Hutterites and their family relationships will be discussed during a lecture next week at the Washington State University Vancouver campus.
The Hutterites are an Anabaptist group and the oldest family communal group in the Western world. They currently reside in Montana, Washington and Western Canada. Similar to the Amish culture, the Hutterites’ core beliefs place community before family. However, recent research shows that their outlook and practices in romance, marriage and family are being influenced by the individualistic values of outer society.
Bron Ingoldsby, professor of family life at Brigham Young University, will speak on the Hutterites’ Family at 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 24 in WSU Vancouver’s Student Services lecture hall. After the lecture Ingoldsby will be available for questions in the cafeteria.
