PULLMAN, Wash. — Some 100 students and faculty from across the Northwest are expected at the regional conference of the National Association of Chicana and Chicano Studies at Washington State University this month.
The conference provides an opportunity to discuss work and share resources. Workshop topics and subjects for panel discussions are now being finalized but will include workshops on writing and activism. The keynote speaker for the event is Nancy Barcelo, vice president of Minority Affairs at the University of Washington. Barcelo is the highest-ranking Chicana university administrator in the United States and has a long history of activism and scholarship.
The NACCS was founded in 1972 to encourage research to further the political actualization of many groups including those at WSU: the Mujeres Unidas and MEChA; the Women’s Studies, Comparative American Cultures and English departments; the College of Liberal Arts and the American Studies Program.
The conference is set for Saturday, April 27, at Todd Hall on the Pullman campus. Pre-registration for students is $3 or $5 the day of the event. Staff and faculty pre-registration is $10, $12 at the door. Lunch is included in registration fees. Reservations can be made by calling (509) 335-8522. Public participation is invited.
