PULLMAN, Wash. — The Washington State University Symphonic Band and the WSU Wind Symphony will give their final performance of the year at 8 p.m. on April 18 in Bryan Hall Auditorium. The concert is free and open to the public.
The symphonic band, directed by WSU faculty member David Turnbull, will open the concert with Symphonic Dance No. 3 “Fiesta,” composed by Clifton Williams and Norman Dello Joio’s “Scenes from the Louvre.” Student conductor Aaron Prindle will conduct Aaron Copland’s “Down a Country Lane” with the group.
The second half of the concert will feature the wind symphony. WSU graduate student Shawn Brehm will conduct the opening piece. “Overture to Candide” by Leonard Bernstein. American composer, Vincent Persichetti, wrote the second piece, “Symphony for Band.” Persichetti is known for writing for top-notch university ensembles. He was commissioned to write the piece in 1958 for Washington University in St. Louis. The concert will close with a set of movements from “Carmina Burnana” by Carl Orff.
