PULLMAN, Wash. — Researchers who are studying salmon biology and impact on salmon restoration will be in the Palouse this week to take part in a Salmon Recovery Symposia.
Set for March 28-29 at the University Inn in Moscow, the symposia is being sponsored by the Center for Reproductive Biology, a joint program at Washington State University and the University of Idaho, and the Northwest Salmon Center, National Marine Fisheries.
According to Michael Skinner, director of CRB and Joe Cloud, symposia coordinator, the focus of the meeting will be on salmon biology with an emphasis on reproduction and conservation.
The sessions include presentations by WSU researchers Gary Thorgaard, Ruth Phillips; Linda Park, Lyndal Johnson, Penny Swanson and Mark Strom of the Northwest Fisheries Center, National Marine Fisheries Service, Seattle; Russell Rodriguez and James R. Winton, U.S. Geological Survey, Biological Resources Division, Seattle, and Steven Goodbred of the division in Sacramento, Calif.; and Robert Devlin, Department of Fisheries and Oceans, West Vancouver Laboratory, West Vancouver, B.C., Canada.
Presenters ALSO included UI researchers James Nagler, Joe Cloud, Ken Cain and Rolf Ingermann; Luis Afonso, University of British Columbia, B.C., Canada; Martin Fitzpatrick, Department of Environmental Quality, Portland, Ore.; Robyn Armstrong, Nez Perce Tribe, Department of Fisheries Resources Management, McCall, Idaho; Paul Kline and Keith Johnson, Idaho Department of Fish and Game, Eagle, Idaho; and Barrie Robison, Indiana University.
“We hope to make this an annual event and in future years will emphasize other areas such as habitat,” Skinner said.
