Prosser’s Brock and Bryn Howell in the thick of WSU Cougar Pride Days

PULLMAN, Wash. — Prosser’s Brock and Bryn Howell are in the thick of helping make Washington State University campus more beautiful, and celebrating its history and employees.

As members of the university’s Student Alumni Connection, during Cougar Pride Days, March 28-April 5, the Howells, brother and sister, will be among those taking part in campus beautification and cleanup projects. Faculty, staff, students and area residents who volunteer may plant flowers, shrubs and trees, spread bark mulch, and pick up litter to ready the campus for spring.

Cougar Pride Days kicks off the morning of March 28, the 112th anniversary of WSU’s founding. On that day, the Student Alumni Connection will serve WSU birthday cake in the Compton Union Building.

Also on March 28 in the CUB, the WSU’s Women’s Leadership Forum will be held as will the Women’s Recognition Luncheon. On March 29, the President’s Employee Excellence Awards reception and presentation will take place.

April 2 is the “main day” during the four — April 1, 2, 3, and 4 — in which the clean-up projects will take place. The annual Faculty Honors Convocation for WSU faculty will be April 4 in Bryan Hall Theater.

Cougar Pride Days has historic roots in Campus Days. Held from 1913-1933, Campus Days included improving the appearance of a then young campus and creating school spirit.

The Student Alumni Connection is working with the WSU Office of Student Affairs and other student organizations to coordinate student participation in Cougar Pride Days. Ev Davis, WSU Facilities Operations director, is Cougar Pride Days coordinator.

Brock is a WSU sophomore majoring in agricultural economics and Bryn is a freshman. Her interest is apparel, merchandising and textiles. Their family is full of WSU Cougars. Sister Andrea is state of Washington government affairs manager for Weyerhaeuser Co. in Olympia. Sister Erika is a University of Idaho School of Law student. She is married to Travis Hartliep, advertising assistant and graphic designer, with Tri-State, an outdoor goods retailer headquartered in Moscow, Idaho. The Howell parents are Bill Howell, fruit tree virologist with the WSU Prosser Irrigated Agriculture Research and Extension Center, and Lynette Howell, owner/operator of Topcliffe Farm, Prosser. There’s a CWU Wildcat in the family, too. Sister Kim Howell Houghee is a graduate of Central Washington University. Andrea, Erika, Travis, Bill and Lynette are all WSU graduates. And, everyone, but Bill and Lynette, are also Prosser High grads.
