Voice and Guitar Duo Perform at WSU Feb. 15

PULLMAN, Wash. — The voice and guitar duo of Janet Chvatal and Scott Kritzer will perform at 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 15, at Washington State University’s Bryan Hall Theatre.

Chvatal and Kritzer’s concerts blend together the sounds of a pure, captivating soprano voice and a six-string guitar. The duo says their performances depart from the traditional vocal recital to provide audiences a refreshing concert experience, which critics describe as “the new chamber music.”

The audience can expect a program featuring American and British folk songs, Spanish and South American works and a set of well-known opera melodies.

Since the duo’s debut at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., in 1996, Chvatal and Kritzer have performed for audiences in North America and Europe. The duo’s international appearances include a performance in Germany for the millennium celebration.

Chvatal has performed in numerous musicals, including a two-year stint as “Christine” in Andrew Lloyd Weber’s “Phantom of the Opera” in Vienna, Austria. She records for Sony Classical and BMI records.

Kritzer has actively toured for a decade, playing solo concerts worldwide. Kritzer’s critically acclaimed performances include New York’s Carnegie Recital Hall, London’s Wigmore Hall and the Lutheran Hall in Sapporo, Japan.
