PULLMAN, Wash. — Award-winning pianist, Wendy Chen, will perform at 8 p.m., Jan. 29, in Washington State University’s Kimbrough Concert Hall as part of WSU’s Young Concert Artist program.
At 15, Chen debuted with the Los Angeles Philharmonic. By 17, the National Foundation for the Arts had recognized her as a Presidential Scholar, and she received first prize in the National Chopin Competition, among other awards.
Since then, she has traveled internationally, performing with symphonies and orchestras including the Cincinnati and Baltimore Chamber Orchestras, the Chamber Orchestra of Albuquerque, the Auckland Philharmonia, the Wellington Sinfonia in New Zealand and the Orquesta Ossodre in Uruguay.
Chen, 29, was born in Los Angeles and attended the Colburn School of Performing Arts as a student of Dorothy Hwang. She received private instruction from Aube Tzerko and Kwang-Wu Kim. Chen earned bachelor and master’s degrees from the Peabody Conservatory at Johns Hopkins University.
