PULLMAN, Wash. — A national Hispanic career and employment magazine recognized Washington State University with a “2001 Educators of Distinction” award.
WSU is among 100 U.S. educational institutions that Saludos Hispanos chose for the award based on effort and commitment to the education of Hispanics, the nation’s fastest-growing minority, said Carlos Sanchez, coordinator for education and community affairs for the magazine.
“The feedback about WSU from alumni and organizations hiring graduates has been really fantastic,” he said.
Sanchez said Saludos Hispanos organizes career fairs and runs a specialized Web site for Hispanics seeking jobs and employers seeking Hispanic, bilingual, college-educated candidates. The organization also works with Hispanic organizations. The institutions recognized by the magazine will appear in the future on the Saludos Hispanos Web site at Saludos.com.
“We want to guide prospective faculty and students toward Latino-friendly institutions,” said Sanchez of the award’s purpose. “They want to go to the university knowing they are going to be comfortable there.”
