Intersex, Feminist Activist to Speak Oct. 11

PULLMAN, Wash. — Activist Emi Koyama will discuss “Intersexions: Mapping Intersex Activism within Progressive Social Change Movements,” 7 p.m. Oct. 11, in Washington State University’s Fine Arts Auditorium. A reception will follow the talk in the Gay Lesbian Bisexual and Allies Center Lounge in the Compton Union Building.

Koyama, feminist activist and author, has traveled across the country, giving dozens of presentations at universities, conferences and communities on a range of topics including intersex, sex workers’ rights, transfeminism, feminism and domestic violence. She is the program assistant for Intersex Society of North America, a non-profit group dedicated to ending unnecessary medical procedures on intersex people. Intersex people are those who are born ambiguously gendered.

The discussion is part of events at WSU for National Lesbian and Gay History Month.
