WSU Vancouver Galleries Feature Works by Master’s in Teaching Graduate, Local Painter

VANCOUVER, Wash. — Two new art exhibits are now on display at Washington State University Vancouver. The Student Services gallery features works by WSU Vancouver Master’s in Teaching degree candidate Chuck Switzer. The Engineering Life Sciences gallery features paintings by local artist Kathryn Bade.

Switzer’s works are based on five months of research on the classroom activities of public school students when they are not paying attention to their teacher. Five collages, one plaster sculpture and two paper and mixed media works display field notes, student course work as well as notes and other contributions by students. Switzer has a bachelor of fine arts degree from Brigham Young University.

Bade’s works focus on faces and emotional expressions. Her interest in art began by observing her mother, Gail Forkan, who paints with watercolors and her brother, Joe Forkan, who is an illustrator and painter. She has studied for three years with local artists through Clark College. She holds a master of science degree in agronomy and plant genetics and a bachelor of science in plant sciences from University of Arizona. She has been a juried vendor at Tessellations, a local art and craft show.

Student Services and Engineering Life Sciences gallery exhibits are open to the public during campus building hours, 7:30 a.m. to 10 p.m., Monday-Friday, and will remain on display through July.

Gallery exhibits, updated each semester, are free and coordinated by the Office of Campus Advancement. For more information about art at WSU Vancouver, call 360/546-9600.
