VANCOUVER, Wash. — Two Earth Day activities will be held later in April at Washington State University Vancouver.
“An Evening with Denis Hayes,” hosted by the Fort Vancouver Regional Library District’s “Forum at the Library” and WSU Vancouver, is set for 7 p.m. April 13 in the Student Services Lecture Hall. A leader in energy conservation, Hayes is a founder of Earth Day and chair of the Earth Day Network. He, too, is president of the Bullitt Foundation and chairs the Energy Foundation’s board of directors. Hayes is a graduate of Camas High School and Clark College.
An “Earth Day Symposium on the Environment” is planned for noon-3 p.m. April 20. The event will feature environmental activist Julia Butterfly Hill and is sponsored by the WSU Vancouver and Clark College environmental clubs and the Associated Students of WSU Vancouver. A luncheon by ticket only for WSU Vancouver and Clark College students takes place at 1 p.m. A free, public forum on the environment is set for 2 p.m. The symposium and forum will be held in the Student Services Lecture Hall. Hill also will speak at Earth Night at Clark College the same evening.
April 22 is Earth Day, designated to recognize the environmental movement started in 1970. Each year Earth Day is celebrated with events geared toward environmental awareness.
