PULLMAN, Wash. — More than 250 minority high school seniors and community college transfer students are expected at the seventh annual Future Teachers of Color Conference March 9-11 on the Washington State University campus.
According to FTOC founder and director Milton Lang, this year’s conference will be the largest ever for the successful student recruitment program.
About 50 chaperones and parents will accompany the students on their three-day visit. The students will meet with financial aid and admissions representatives, tour the campus and attend the March 10 WSU men’s basketball game against the University of Southern California.
The students also will attend a March 10 banquet with WSU regent and FTOC benefactor Ken Alhadeff as the keynote speaker. In addition, several FTOC graduates who are working as teachers will speak.
The FTOC Program is sponsored by the College of Education to help end the underrepresentation of minority teachers in Washington schools.
