Faculty Chamber Music Concert Planned for Oct. 5

PULLMAN, Wash. — The Faculty Chamber Music Concert, featuring the
United States premier of one musical selection, is set for Washington State
University’s Kimbrough Concert Hall on Thursday, Oct. 5.

Faculty from the WSU School of Music and Theatre Arts will perform at the 8
p.m. concert.

Karen Roll-Gardener, Julie Ann Wieck and Carol Miyamoto will perform
“Dialogue III (ou Comme un cri)” by Lucie Robert-Diessel for the first time in
the United States. Roll-Gardener, who completed her doctoral dissertation on
contemporary French composer Robert-Diessel, originally commissioned the
piece. The trio also performed the world premiere of the piece at the
International Saxophone Congress in Montreal, Quebec, in July 2000.

The concert will feature three other musical selections including “Parto, parto,
ma tu, ben mio,” an aria from the opera “La Clemenza di Tito,” by Wolfgang
Amadeus Mozart; “Trio for Flute, Viola, and Cello, Op. 40,” by Albert Roussel;
and the tango “Primavera Portena,” “Verano Porteno,” “Otono Porteno,”
“Invierno Porteno,” a four-movement piece representing the four seasons, by
Astor Piazzolla.

Faculty performers include Meredith Arksey, violin; Gerald Berthiume, piano;
Sheila K. Converse, mezzo-soprano; Erich Lear, viola; Miyamoto, piano;
Roll-Gardener, alto saxophone; James Schoepflin, clarinet; Wieck, soprano;
Ann Marie Yasinitsky, flute; and Eugene Zenzen, cello.
