Washington State Chicano Latino Student Center Presents Brown Bag Series for Fall

PULLMAN, Wash. — Unity of the Washington State University Chicano Latino community together is one of the aims of a brown bag series this fall.

The Washington State Chicano Latino Student Center is sponsoring “The Down for the Brown/Brown Bag Gatherings.”

Open to the public, the 12:10-1:10 p.m. events in the center, Wilson Hall, Room 101, include:

— Sept. 13, David Gutierrez, McNair scholar and MEChA CASHE Conference co-chair, addresses “The Necessity of Political Activism and Awareness in the Chicano Latino Community.”

— Sept. 27, Leaders and advisers of ChILASTAL and other groups will discuss issues and challenges Chicano Latino student organizations experience at predominately white institutions.

— Oct. 18, Jose Alamillo, comparative American cultures faculty, talks about “Chicano Latino Identity.”

— Oct. 24, Francisco Manzo-Robledo, foreign languages and literatures faculty, addresses “Dia de los Muertos.” He will discuss the belief that the Latin American Celebration of the Dead is not morbid; but rather it is a time of happiness, remembering and much feasting.

— Nov. 15, Lucila Loera, WSU career services counselor, talks about “Choosing a Major.”

— Dec. 6, Victor Villanueva, English department chair, “Inglés in the Colleges.”
