PULLMAN, Wash. — The musically inspired play “Godspell,” the final show of
Pullman’s Summer Palace 2000 season, returns Sept. 8 and 9 to open the fall
theater season at Washington State University. The 8 p.m. productions are set
for Daggy Hall’s Jones Theatre.
“Godspell” is based on the Gospel According to St. Matthew. The action of
the play is set in a big-top, three-ring circus, and the roles of Jesus and his
disciples take on the parts of clowns, acrobats and lion tamers. The band
shares the stage with actors while performing the show’s hit numbers, such as
“Prepare Ye the Way of the Lord,” “Day by Day,” “Oh Bless the Lord My
Soul,” and the satiric “All for the Best.”
“The play can be enjoyed at many levels,” said director George Caldwell. “For
the theologically minded, it’s a thought-provoking examination of lessons that
we all struggle to learn. For people who enjoy good music, there is plenty to
sing and dance about.”
The WSU theatre season kicks off with “Godspell,” followed by the Student
Play Festival of original works on Dad’s Weekend Oct. 20-21, Shakespeare’s
“Midsummer Night’s Dream in December, a play of diversity in February and
the musical “Secret Garden” during Mom’s Weekend in April.
Theatergoers are encouraged to purchase tickets in advance. Adult tickets are
$8, senior citizens $6 and students/children are $4. The WSU Theatre Ticket
