PULLMAN, Wash. — Darcy Miller, chair of the department of teaching and
learning at Washington State University, will receive the Year 2000
Washington Award for Excellence in Teacher Preparation at a ceremony at the
state capital on May 24.
Gov. Gary Locke and Superintendent of Public Instruction Terry Bergeson will
present the award.
Established by the Legislature in 1990, the award is given annually to one
university faculty member for contributions to the education of Washington’s
teachers.
Miller was chosen for her contributions in both general and special education,
teacher preparation, programs and curricula for children and youth, and the
professional development of teachers. Miller also chairs the Washington State
Special Education Advisory Council and was instrumental in producing a
white paper on the status of special education for the Legislature.
