WSU Regents to Meet Friday

PULLMAN, Wash. — Washington State University’s Board of Regents will
conduct its regular monthly meeting at 9 a.m. in the Lewis Alumni Centre,
Pullman.

WSU Provost Rom Markin is expected to submit a proposal to establish a new
bachelor of arts in hotel and restaurant administration joint degree between
WSU and Montana State University.

Under the proposal, hotel and restaurant administration courses would be
delivered to Montana students through on-site instruction, over the Internet
and via satellite.

In other business, the regents will be asked to approve schematic design and
grant authorization to proceed with further development of the new Institute
for Shock Physics building. The $12.4 million facility is scheduled for
completion in the fall of 2002.

Shock wave research explores very rapid compression of materials,
shock-induced chemical changes, detonation science, and the dynamic
response of materials at large compressions and deformations.

The meeting is open to the public. Agendas will be available at the door.
