WSU Chemical Engineering Observes 50th Anniversary

PULLMAN, Wash. — Distinguished Alumni Awards will be presented to five
graduates of Washington State University’s Department of Chemical
Engineering on April 26 as part of the department’s 50th anniversary
observance.

The presentations will be made at the annual spring banquet beginning at 6
p.m. at Pullman’s Hilltop Restaurant.

Receiving the awards are Tim Clossey, ’80, president of ARCO Marine Co.;
Tom Graedel, ’60, a researcher and leading authority on industrial ecology;
Paul Hohenschuh, ’64, retired vice president of Genentech; Jim Lafferty, ’44, a
consultant with UOP Inc. who developed the catalytic hydrocracking process;
and Brion Wise, ’68, chairman of the board of Western Gas Resources.

The department’s spring banquet is held in conjunction with WSU’s Golden
Grad Reunion. Among the oldest graduates will be O.H. Reaugh, ’33, who has
endowed a research program in oil and gas processing.

Originally part of the department of chemistry, a separate department of
chemical engineering was established by the university’s Board of Regents in
1950.
