Search Committee Formed for WSU Athletic Director

PULLMAN, Wash. — Washington State University has formed a search
committee to find a new athletic director. The position was vacated in March
when Rick Dickson left WSU for a post at Tulane University.

Search committee chair Ken Casavant said the group would seek nominees and
recommendations about the position from the community, friends and
supporters of WSU. The committee will meet for the first time April 12.

WSU President Samuel Smith said the committee would have the task of
finding only the most highly qualified candidates for this critical administrative
post. “This position must be filled by a person with outstanding leadership
skills, integrity and experience,” he said.

President Smith plans to work with president-elect V. Lane Rawlins on
selecting the finalists. The new athletic director is expected to be named by
June 1.

Longtime Cougar Athletics administrator Marica Saneholtz is currently filling
the position on an interim basis.

Committee chair Casavant is a faculty member from the college of agriculture
and home economics, and the current faculty representative to the NCAA and
the Pacific-10 Conference.

Other committee members include Chuck Beckel, alumni and member of the
Athletic Council; Niki Castle, student athlete and member of the Student
Athletic Advisory Board; Cindy Fredrick, WSU women’s volleyball head
coach; Al Jamison, vice provost for educational development; Nancy
Magnuson, member of the Athletic Council; Reuben Mayes, graduate student
and former WSU athlete; and Linda Yates, Spokane Cougar Club.
