PULLMAN, Wash. — Washington State University Board of Regents heard
presentations from several university officials and constituency groups during
their regular meeting here today.
Larry Ganders, director of statewide affairs, told the board that he expects to
see no cuts to WSU’s current budget during the legislative session. Secure at
this time in the House and Senate budgets is $450,000 in new funding that will
relocate WSU’s Center for Cancer Prevention from the Pullman campus to the
Spokane Intercollegiate Research and Technology building on the Riverpoint
campus. The university also expects to receive $3.6 million to fund a boiler for
the Pullman campus’ power plant.
Regents approved a proposal to award a construction contract for phase II of
the WSU Child Care Center. The project will improve some 6,675 square feet of
unused space to house infant and toddler day care and the department of
human development children’s program. University officials hope construction
will begin this summer with completion during winter 2000-01. When the
project is finished, all of WSU’s child care facilities will be in one facility.
The board also approved its 2001 meeting schedule: Jan. 12, Feb. 16, March 30,
May 11, June 29, Aug. 24, Oct. 5 and Nov. 16. Location and time of each
meeting will be scheduled at a later date.
