Saneholtz Named WSU’s Interim Athletic Director

PULLMAN, Wash. — Marcia Saneholtz will begin duties Monday, March 6, as
interim director of Washington State University’s Intercollegiate Athletics
program.

Currently senior associate director of the unit, Saneholtz has been part of
Cougar athletics for two decades. She has been instrumental in the
improvement of athletic facilities on the Pullman campus and was the driving
force in bringing the 1997 NCAA Division I Women’s Volleyball
Championships to Spokane, hosted by WSU.

Saneholtz served on the National Association of Collegiate Women Athletic
Administrators’ board of directors from 1987-94 and served as its president
from 1992-94. She was selected the NACWAA National Administrator of the
Year in 1997.

In addition to overseeing all event and facilities operations and student
support services, as well as supervising nine sports at WSU, she has been a
strong presence on several NCAA committees. She just completed her term as
the chair of the Women’s Division I Volleyball Committee after serving as a
member since 1993. She also has served on numerous Pacific-10 Conference
committees.

Within the next two weeks, President Samuel H. Smith is expected to name a
search committee for the athletic director position vacated by Rick Dickson,
who accepted a similar position at Tulane University.

“I’m looking forward to the challenge,” Saneholtz said. “Rick has laid a strong
basis for us to move forward and we have a great team in place. We will carry
on and continue to make progress until the new athletic director is named.”

“We are moving forward with the search for a new athletic director,” added
Smith. “I will be working with incoming president Lane Rawlins to fill the post
this spring.”
