PULLMAN, Wash. — The Ruth Slonim Poetry Series at Washington State University continues March 31 with a reading by University of Michigan professor emeritus and poet Murray Jackson.
The reading takes place in the Bundy Reading Room in Avery Hall from 4-5 p.m. with a reception to follow.
Jackson has written “Watermelon Rinds and Cherry Pits” and “Woodland Sketches.” He has been included in many anthologies and journals as well.
Jackson’s visit is sponsored by the College of Liberal Arts.
The poetry series is named after Ruth Slonim. The professor emerita of English served WSU for 36 years, retiring in 1983. She has received international acclaim for her poetry. Her work, “Outer Traces, Inner Places,” was among the nominees for the 1982 Pulitzer Prize in Poetry. She was the first woman invited to present the WSU Distinguished Faculty Address, one of the highest honors accorded WSU faculty members.
